S38 Internationals Bulletin #1

In conjunction with the Sydney Harbour Regatta

Hosted by MHYC, Sydney, NSW, Australia

For the first time in our history, the Sydney 38 Association will be conducting an International Championship over 3 days in March 2017, to be conducted by MHYC as part of Sydney’s largest keel boat regatta, the Sydney Harbour Regatta. Participants will not only be able to compete in the S38 Internationals, they will also have the opportunity of winning a division of the Sydney Harbour Regatta.

This Bulletin provides early information on the regatta as well as seeks Expressions of Interest from those keen to be involved. Based on early indications we are expecting a fleet of around fifteen, with owners from the US and New Caledonia and boats from Victoria, Queensland and maybe SA,  joining our fleet from NSW.

Planning for the Championship is well advanced with NOR expected November 2016. MHYC have committed to accommodating our fleet on one marina  adding to the camaraderie before and after the races. Up to three races per day will be conducted in the Manly or Macquarie Circles off Sydney Heads, weather permitting, with racing in the harbour as a fall back. This regatta is expected to require Cat 4 AYF Special Regulations compliance.

Registration and weigh-in will be held on the afternoon of Thursday the 2nd of March with last weigh-ins concluded on the morning of the 3rd of March. An opportunity will be available for warm up practice for those interested on the Thursday afternoon.

We are planning to have a few social events over the course of the regatta starting with Welcome Drinks, Crew Dinner at the club and drinks on the dock, so there will be plenty of opportunities to swap stories about close roundings and tactics. Prize Giving will be conducted after the racing on the 5th of March.

The Association has committed to trying to provide some financial support for International crews with some additional berthing provided at no cost to Interstate boats. The amount of this support will be dependant on finalising arrangements for sponsorship of the regatta.

To assist with our planning, we would ask you to click the link below to confirm your interest in participating in the regatta. We appreciate we asked for responses several months ago however, we would appreciate if you responded previously to reconfirm your interest.

We also ask that those who are not interested in participating, however are keen to charter their boats, either with or without sails click the link below. We expect we will need at least three to four boats available for charter to accomodate international and interstate crews. For those wanting to charter a boat please register by clicking the link below and we will be in touch to try and accommodate your needs. Note: The Association has a standard charter agreement available inclusive of insurance, to make life easy for all parties.
We are in the process of negotiating sponsors so please let us know if you know of any potential sponsors who might be interested.

Regards and looking forward to seeing you in Sydney in March next year!
